| The outer tracks of the disk contain the program files. Further in on the disk is a specially laid down calibration track which is put down using
special electronics during manufacture. This calibration track enables the software to measure the read quality of the heads (and in the case of Headmax, also the radial alignment).
The Cleaning area consists partially of a very fine grade polishing alumina (.1 micron). This is enough to shift any dirt from the floppy drives heads
without damaging them by over polishing. The cleaning cycle is controlled by the software and will stop cleaning the heads when no further improvement in head read quality is established. |
